In Module 1 you’ll learn how to navigate the session view page, show and hide different sections in the session view, use the mixer, navigate the browser, launch clips, stop clips, launch scenes and use the editing functions.
In Module 2 you’ll start your track. You’re going to get a kick drum into your track. You’ll learn how to use the clip view, how to edit your loops, adjust your start and end points, how to create new grooves by adjusting loop parameters and how to save your project.
In Module 3 you’ll add a drum loop to your track and learn how to warp or time correct out of time audio files. You’ll learn about the different warp modes and how to save the warping information into your files as ‘.asd’ files.
In Module 4 you’ll add some more percussion parts to your track. You’ll also learn how to use midi tracks and virtual instruments. You’ll learn how to make your own custom drum kits, how to save virtual instrument presets, how to navigate midi clips and how to program in and edit midi notes.
In Module 5 you’ll add a bassline to your track. You’ll learn how to play midi notes in live using a computer keyboard or midi controller keyboard. You’ll learn how to hot swap between different instrument presets and quantize your playing either as you play the notes in or afterwards.
In Module 6 you’ll add a chord part to your track. You’ll learn about using your root note or key from your bass line to determine your chord notes. You’ll learn how to make chord progressions and how to use the midi effects.
In Module 7 you’ll learn how to write a melody or lead hook line for your track. You’ll learn how to use clip envelopes and you’ll discover how you can layer different parts together to create your own unique sounds.
In Module 8 you’ll learn how to record a vocal into your track and how to setup and record any audio signal into Ableton Live. You’ll also learn how to time stretch vocal files, how to transpose vocal files and get creative with your recordings.
In Module 9 you’ll learn how to use the audio effects. You’ll learn how to load effects, save effects presets and hot swap between different effects presets. You’ll also learn about signal chains and how to group your effects together into effects racks. You’ll learn about eq, compression, reverb, delay, distortion and chorus.
In Module 10 you’ll learn some practical applications of the effects to your track. You’ll learn effects techniques and how to process your kick drum, loops, percussion, bassline, chords, melody and vocals.
In Module 11 you’ll learn how to start arranging your clip ideas into a song format and you’ll learn how to make variations to your clips. You’ll also learn how to organise your track by renaming and recolouring all of your parts. You’ll learn about basic arrangement structure and how to organise your arrangement using your scenes.
In Module 12 you’ll learn how to use the arrangement view page. You’ll learn how to navigate the arrange page, and how to edit. You’ll learn how to create an arrangement template and create and edit locators. You’ll learn how to block out your arrangement and how to use the back to arrange button.
In Module 13 you’ll learn how to edit in the arrange page and how to create fills which will help you to join your sections together. You’ll discover how you can use the clip parameters to get even more creative with your fills and edits and how to duplicate time in your track and how to cut time out of your track. You’ll also learn how to create a build up and drop in your track.
In Module 14 you’ll learn how to use the clip envelopes while in the arrange page to further edit and develop your arrangement. You’ll also learn how to add fx sounds to your arrangement like swishes, crashes, booms, uplifters, downlifters and white noise.
In Module 15 you’ll learn how to assign clips to your computer keyboard or midi controller keyboard. You’ll then learn how to trigger those clips live and record the performance into your arrangement. You’ll learn how to use clip quantization and how to midi map and key map.
In Module 16 you’ll learn how to use automation which will really start to bring your track to life. You’ll learn how to use automation lanes, how to assign automation and how to use multiple automation lanes. You’ll learn how to program in automation and how to edit automation lines. You’ll learn how to use the re-enable automation button and how to automate in draw mode.
In Module 17 you’ll learn how to record your automation in live using your computer keyboard or midi controller keyboard. You’ll learn how to setup your midi controller keyboard to record in automation, how to assign parameters for automating and then how to record the live performances onto your arrange page. You’ll also learn how to combine the techniques with yesterday’s programming automation and today’s live performing automation.
In Module 18 you are going to learn how to start your mixdown process. You’ll learn about mixdown techniques and how to bounce out your stems ready for mixdown. You’ll also learn how to re import your stems back into a fresh project ready for mixdown and you’ll learn how to organise your tracks and how to group your tracks.
In Module 19 you are going to learn how to do your mixdown and learn loads of valuable mixdown techniques. You’re going to learn about ‘send/return’ tracks, what they are, how they work and how you are going to use them in your mixdown. You’re also going to learn how to use your sound placement to give all of your sounds their own space in your mix.
In Module 20 you are going to learn how to apply some mastering effects to your master track and how to bounce out your final finished song file. You’ll learn how to apply some compression and also limiting to your final track so that it’s polished, punchy and loud.
